Concern: Is my design robust against expected material, manufacturing and load variations?

Solution: Perform a HEEDS Design Robustness & Reliability study.

Finite geometric tolerances, variations in material properties, and uncertainty in loading conditions. These are facts of life, and they cause each manufactured part to perform slightly differently in service. When a design is robust, its performance does not vary strongly over the range of these expected variations and it remains above an acceptable level at all times.

To evaluate the robustness of a design, its design variables and system inputs are made stochastic; they are defined in terms of both a mean value and a statistical distribution function. The resulting system performance characteristics must now be measured in terms of a mean value and its variance.

In HEEDS, stochastic variations can be assigned to all design variables and system inputs so that a stochastic simulation can be performed. These studies help designers to achieve designs that meet the highest quality standards for robustness and reliability.
